COMMISSION FAQ'S

How does the commission process begin? 

Everything begins with a friendly and open conversation. You are under no obligation to buy anything or sign anything during an initial conversation. The purpose is to discuss our expectations and hopefully agree to move forward with a commissioned artwork. 

Once we agree on a general size and theme, we can begin to outline the price and a time frame for work to be completed. Please note that I will require a materials fee before production begins.

 

How do you determine the price? 

I price my work using a formula that factors in the dimensions of the work, the costliness of the materials to be used, and the labor-intensity of the techniques and processes that will be employed in creating the work. 

The final price can be estimated by the finished size. As a general rule, I charge a minimum of $1.50 per square inch for commissioned artwork. For example, a composition measuring 10” x 10” (100 square inches) will cost CAD $150. The price may increase depending on the complexity of the painting. 

 

How can I pay?

All prices are in Canadian Dollars. I accept all major credit cards via Square, Stripe, and PayPal. I also accept cash. 

 

How long does it take to finish? 

The time it takes to complete a composition varies depending on the size and complexity of the design. I need anywhere between 3 – 8 weeks to complete a piece. The delivery date will be determined once both parties agree on the overall design and size of the artwork. 

 

Can I choose the colors you will use? 

Possibly, but there are some limitations. Some pigments respond well to certain techniques, while others do not. 

Before I begin, I will create a mood board that will be used as a guide, so that we can agree on a general color scheme and tone. However, the creative process often has a life of its own. In order to do my best work, I need to have flexibility.  

 

Can I see the artwork while you are making it? 

I do not provide in progress photos or visits while working on commissions. My paintings go through several stages before I am satisfied with the design. Sharing photos during different stages is counterproductive to the whole creative process. 

 

Can you alter the artwork after it has been completed?

Sorry, no. Due to the nature of the medium, it is not possible to alter a painting. 

 

Does the artwork need to be framed? 

No. I take special care in finishing the edges of the artwork to give it a sleek and streamlined look. However, should you wish to frame the work, I recommend only using a floater frame. Be sure to tell your framer to take special care when framing the work, so as not to scratch the surface of the resin. Refer to  Care Guidelines for further information. 

 

What about Shipping?

Every situation will be different when it comes to delivering the work of art to the buyer. Fee's vary depending on the location of the buyer, the size and the weight of the artwork. Please contact me directly with any questions.

 

Can I get a refund?

Commissions cannot be fully refunded once production has begun. If the client refuses the finished piece before it has been delivered to them, I retain the deposit/materials fees, along with the artwork.
